TASK 1 - ANNOTATED MOVIE POSTERS

HOW DOES THIS FILM POSTER ATTRACT ITS TARGET AUDIENCE?

This film poster attracts its target audience with its use of bold, vibrant colours for the text representing the name of the movie, its release date and the actors that are playing in it. It also shows on the front cover the two different personalities of Tony Stark/Iron Man which gives the audience that enjoy the comic books a way to predict whats going to happen in the movie which attracts more hype to the movie. It also attracts its target audience by having the vibrant text sit on the dark, blue background with a city-scape. The text looks more vibrant because it contrasts the dark background to amplify its own colour. Additionally, the text gives the idea that its going to be a sci-fi related film which can attract the films target audience.

HOW DOES THIS FILM POSTER ATTRACT ITS TARGET AUDIENCE?

This film poster attracts its target audience by using the main protagonist featured in the movie on the front cover to imply that he is looking for some action. Additionally, they made him black/white to contrast to the white background to make the actor stand out more to make sure the audience knows he is the main character in the movie which may attract an audience as people might want to watch the film knowing that the actor 'Denzel Washington' is starring in it. Additionally, they make the title of the film vibrant red with a grunge, dirty effect to imply that he is going to be getting violent with whoever the antagonist(s) may be. This is because grunge textured objects and texts are normally associated with dirty, unwashed environments which can link into the violence the film. This may attract its target audience as it will consist mainly of people that enjoy a lot of action films.

TASK 5 - TEXT DESIGNS

WHICH FONT I CHOSE

I have chosen to use the 'GOTHAM' font as I feel it represents the action genre quite well as it is a bold, standing out font with very smooth edges which can relate to the character I am going to portraying in an abstract way on my film poster. Additionally, it matches what the target audience wants as they want to see a film poster that is eye-catching and different to the stereotypical grunge-style fonts of most action movies.

TASK 6 - COLOUR SCHEME RESEARCH

SUMMARY

To summarise, most film posters in the action genre don't have a set of must-use colours; instead they use a wide-range of colours ranging from greyish/whitish scheme to a bright orange/reddish scheme. Additionally, the colours used in the action genre film posters have very little similarity as they are all trying to represent a different character/movie in a different way.

TASK 7 - COLOUR SCHEME ANALYSIS

SCHEME 1

For the first colour scheme, I used a combination of vibrant but soft colours ranging from reds to yellows. This is because I wanted to link it to the action genre film poster colour schemes as these colours are mostly present in fires/explosions; this helps pull in the target audience as they are looking for a heavy action-story based film.

SCHEME 2

For the second colour scheme, I used more shades rather than colours to signify that the story could have some hard-hitting moments and possibly violent tendencies within the main character. This would attract the target audience of the action genre as mostly 13-20+ year old people watch these types of films; this colour scheme might attract them because they think the film is going to be slow-paced and methodical rather than all-out guns blazing in stereotypical action films.

SCHEME 3

For the third colour scheme, I went for a more futuristic warfare approach to the film poster as the film could be set at any moment in time as it hasn't got a set boundary. I did this because this would attract a target audience looking for action-sci-fi films as it shows colours ranging from light blue to dark blue which isn't a typical colour you would see in nature.

SCHEME 4

For the fourth colour scheme, I used a more nightclub vibe approach to the film poster as this isn't a stereotypical colour scheme used in the action genre so this could attract its target audience as people may be curious to see how the film is structured and if its any good.
